ERPL Propulsion Research and Development: Electric Propulsion

At the Embry-Riddle Plasma Propulsion Laboratory (ERPPL) we design and analyze different plasma propulsion systems. Our current project is the design of a high power Two-stage Anode Layer (TAL) Hall-effect thruster (HET). The aim of this project is to build and test the designed thruster by Spring 2013.

The Plasma Propulsion lab is mainly researched-based; much of the emphasis is on the modeling and understanding of the systems and subsystems of given plasma propulsion systems. Although electric propulsion technologies are used in practice, there is still much that can be done to improve efficiency and output.
